Bringing the EYLF into in-home care

Growing Your PracticeFor career caregivers

The Early Years Learning Framework is not just for centres. Nannies bring its principles, Being, Belonging, and Becoming, into the family home every day, often in ways group care simply cannot.

Ways nannies weave it in

Because you work one-on-one, you can follow a single child's interests closely, extend their learning through real-world experiences, and build genuine relationships and routines around them. Everyday moments, cooking, a walk, tidying up together, become intentional learning when you approach them with the framework in mind.

Why it looks different from group care

In a centre, the framework is applied across a room of children on a shared program. At home, it is shaped entirely around one child or family, in their own environment, at their own pace. For caregivers who have completed formal early childhood qualifications or worked in group care, this is a shift from planning for many to truly individualising for one.

Keep building your practice

Pairing the framework with regular reflection is where the real growth happens. See our guide to reflective practice.
