Recognising your career caregiver

For FamiliesFor families

Recognition does not have to be extravagant. A heartfelt thank you, a thoughtful note, or simply acknowledging the important role your career caregiver plays in your family's life can make a lasting impact, and it is one of the surest ways to keep a wonderful person in your children's lives.

Small things that mean a lot

Respect and professionalism. Honour the agreed terms, hours, and pay. That is the foundation everything else sits on.

Verbal feedback. Say thank you at the end of each shift, and be specific about what you are grateful for.

Notes and cards. A handwritten note is always treasured.

Celebrate milestones. Mark the "nannyversary" of their first day with your family, birthdays, and any qualifications they earn while working with you.

Snacks and coffee. Never an expectation, but if you know their favourite, keep some on hand. Offer them a coffee when you make your own.

Include them in memories. Take photos with your caregiver and include them in family milestones where it feels right.

Testimonials and references. Even when they are not job hunting, a letter of recommendation can mean the world.

Why it matters

A little recognition tells your caregiver they are doing a good job, and without it, they simply may not know. Feeling valued is a big part of why great caregivers stay, which means more consistency and security for your children.

Little Smiles Nannying is built on the belief that valued caregivers give the best care. If you are looking for someone wonderful to recognise in the first place, Emma would love to help.
